Proofreading Tips to Up Your Website’s WOW Factor

Proofreading Tips to Up Your Website’s WOW Factor Have you ever stumbled across a website and gasped at the typos strewn everywhere? It’s not a great advert for any business, really, is it?  If I don’t know the business owner or the business already, then chances are I’ll bounce away from the site in an instant. And that’s precisely what many people do. This affects your bounce rate badly (ie how quickly someone clicks on and off your page) and affects your search engine rankings too. So if you’d prefer new visitors to stay longer and you’d like to convert them into buyers or new social media followers, then it’s a good idea to put on your proofreading specs and start overhauling your website content. Here’s how to start proofreading your website: Print out every page of your website  Proofreading from your screen isn’t quite as effective as working with pen and paper.  So the first thing you should do is print out all of your web pages and then grab a red pen (gotta be red!) and a ruler.  Top Proofreading Tip: grab a drink of water before you start proofreading – hydrated brain cogs run much smoother than dehydrated ones. 2. Use a ruler to go through each page line by line Armed with your red pen and your ruler, read through each line slowly, using your ruler to move down the page and your finger to point at every word.  (Yes, I know this sounds like being back in primary school but, believe, me it really works!) Mark any typos you spot, and then when you’ve...

Hewson Nash Holistic WordPress Website Feedback

Super fabulous feedback from Hewson Nash Holistic on their brand new wordpress website design, launched September 2017 Wow…what can I say?! The brief started out easy (or so I thought) – “build us a website please”, but then it turned into a beast!!! We started adding and adding and changing and being generally very annoying I can imagine, but this did not phase Trace one bit! Trace is amazing, she has built us a fantastic website that has surpassed all expectations and has been totally supportive and helpful along the way (and I can imagine we have driven her crazy some days!) Nothing has phased her; her dogged determination to fix problems that we have encountered and find alternative routes is impressive. She has made brilliant suggestions and guided us along the path of building a quite complex website (we didn’t realise how complex when we started out) and her design and attention to detail is just fabulous! We could not have done this without Trace, and I would not build another website without her either! An amazing talented lady! Whenever anyone asks me who could build them a website I will always point them in Trace’s direction. Thank you Trace, you are a star! Our website design angel! The Property Styling Company WordPress Website Feedback

More top WordPress website feedback. This is from Helen Silver from The Property Styling Company, based in Bath. Working with Trace was a complete eye opener. Her knowledge about websites and what you can do with them is awesome! Having ‘known’ Trace for a couple of years via Twitter, I approached her to give my website a much need overhaul. It was immediately apparent that she was super efficient, super organised and has super powers…nothing was too much trouble. Although I’m sure she spent many an evening cursing me over a relaxing glass of fizz! The overhaul turned into a complete rebuild/revamp, whatever you want to call it, and was much more involved than bother of us first imagined. She had to deal with a complete novice who knew the kind of ‘look’ she wanted but had no idea what was possible and what wasn’t. Trace had to deal with photos that were way too large to upload, several requests for ‘last minute changes’ and must have dreaded our conversations when the site was almost ready to go live and I’d ask if it was possible to ‘just add something else’!! The finished site is more than I hoped for. I have complete confidence that everything works well, is fully secure, backed up properly and user friendly. Trace is also readily available at the end of the phone to help sort out any problems and offer encouragement when I’m trying to add things to the site myself. Unfortunately, I still don’t really understand what she’s talking about and even after a full briefing, still haven’t quite discovered what to...

Get 10% off web hosting plans!

Looking for affordable and reliable web hosting plans? Why not have a look at Tsohost.com? I’ve been with this excellent company for many years now, and have the Ultimate Hosting Plan at £19.99 per month. I need the extra space because I have 12 websites hosting on my plan. However, your web hosting costs could be as little as £2.99 per month for the Standard plan. And for those of you with 5 or more websites to look after that aren’t multi-sites? The £4.99 per month Professional plan is perfect. So, what exactly do you get for your money? I really like Tsohost.com because with every web hosting plan, you get free 2GB email accounts. If you’re currently paying for example 123-reg.co.uk or fasthosts.co.uk a couple of quid every month just for ONE matching domain name email Inbox, then you’re better off switching to Tsohost, because you get web hosting AND your email hosting. Tsohost also support the free “Let’s Encrypt” SSL certification. You can get your website all secure with the magic Google green padlock in less than 10 minutes. I did it quickly and easily. And finally, let’s not forget the great technical support you get with Tsohost. I had the awful scenario a few months back where I went to log into my own website…and it wasn’t there! Aarrgghh, don’t panic Captain Mainwaring, don’t panic! (showing my age there with a “Dad’s Army” reference!) Anyhoo, I just raised a support ticket on my Tsohost Dashboard, and my website was back up and running in 30 minutes. Major relief and zero stress. The great thing about Tsohost is...

Your websites are too expensive!

I had a very interesting phone call with a lovely woman this week who got in touch with me about designing her start-up business website. We had a great chat: her business sounded brilliant, and we got on really well.  She explained what she wanted from her website: 5 pages and a blog, but no e-commerce functionality. Her main criteria was that it had to have a prominent email sign-up box on the front page with a snazzy “Hero” landscape image to promote her free e-book. Oh, and would the price of my website include me “jazzing up” her e-book and converting it to PDF? All fairly straightforward, and I knew I could do a great job interpreting her brief. And so I gave her my price for the project: £550 – £500 for the website & £50 for the e-book design work. There was a telling silence on the other end of the phone… After a little while she replied, “But I’ve seen websites being advertised on Twitter for £199. Your websites are too expensive!” What did you think my response was? Well…I definitely didn’t take any offence, didn’t take it personally, or offer her a discount simply to get the project. I just thought “OK, no problem: she’s NOT my Perfect Client”. The best way forward would be to offer her a list of useful questions to ask her £199 bods and then move on! My advice was for her to get in touch with the £199 web company and find out if that is the actual final price, or if there will be any extras that they...
